I love when God opens my eyes to moments where I can explain to my girls how our Father is to us!
I worked last night and the sweet hubby took the girls to the store for, I think, a Mothers Day surprise!! He told me this morning how sweet Jada was. She used her own money to buy Ella a little jewelry set. She did it out of love for her sister. She didn't even buy herself anything and didn't even complain about spending her money. So when they got home Greg gave her a dollar. When she woke up she was REALLY wanting to tell me the surprise but she's a good secret keeper so I know she won't. I mentioned to her how proud I was of her generosity and used the example of how God blesses us when we are generous to others....the same way her daddy gave her that dollar for being generous to her sister!
There's a lot of things I hope for my girls! But, above all, I want them to honor God with all they have and do!
If they're the smartest kid I know but are prideful about it then, to me, it's not really that important.
If they grow up to have a high paying job but hoard it all and are selfish with their belongings then I may have failed as a parent.
I hope to teach my girls how to love, how to give, how to smile through pain, how to help even in the middle of chaos in their own lives, and to stop, bend down and lift up others when no one else will. To run to the aid of those being put down or left out. To be one of the ones who turns back to give thanks instead of continuing on without acknowledging their blessings!
As Jada and Ella's mommy, it is my life's goal to nurture their heart the way God would have them be. It will take a lot of effort and there will be days I may feel like giving up but if I want them to be all of who God created them to be then I can't. In order for them to display the fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, self-control) then I have to keep my eyes on kingdom things and not earthly things!
So grateful God allows teachable moments every, single day! Some are obvious and others I have to seek out but they're all around!!
Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
